Improve Your Oral Health and Life with Teeth Straightening

Braces are a tried-and-true method for improving oral health, smile function, and aesthetics. Almost all malocclusions can be resolved with orthodontics, ranging from mild spacing and misalignment problems to more complex bite and tooth eruptions. Orthodontic treatment involves using different appliances to gradually move teeth, retrain muscles, and influence the growth of teeth.

At Miami-Dade Dental Specialties, our dentist, Dr. Tamara Martinez, has advanced training in occlusion, traditional metal braces, Invisalign®, and first-stage orthodontics in young children. As such, we can provide all your family’s dental and orthodontic needs under one roof in a warm and welcoming setting. Whether you have crooked teeth, gaps, an overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite, or your child has crowding due to narrow arches, we have the right skills and technologies to diagnose and resolve these issues with state-of-the-art orthodontics in Miami, FL.

Invisalign

Invisalign in Miami, FL, uses a series of clear, customized appliances to correct mild to moderate alignment issues. This methodology delivers a more discreet and comfortable alternative than traditional metal braces. Unlike metal braces, clear aligners are minimally invasive and removable, making it far easier to follow a normal oral hygiene routine. The process starts by creating a 3D image of your teeth using the Invisalign iTero scanner in just minutes. Mapping software helps calculate the right amount of force for every tooth movement.

This information is sent to the Invisalign lab to create your series of custom-made BPA-free plastic aligners. For the best and most efficient results, you’ll need to wear the aligners 20–22 hours a day and only remove them for eating, brushing, and flossing. You’ll switch to a new set of aligners every two weeks as your teeth gradually shift into the proper position. While minor alignment issues can be achieved in as little as six months, completing Invisalign treatment typically takes 12–18 months.

Traditional Metal Braces

With ongoing advancements in materials and production techniques, modern traditional braces are smaller and sleeker, and the brackets look more discreet. Traditional braces are made of high-grade stainless steel and consist of small brackets adhered to your teeth with a solid adhesive compound. The brackets are connected with a thin metal wire called the archwire. This wire is periodically tightened, putting pressure on your teeth to move them into the targeted position gradually. Options include clear braces, colored wires, and elastics (rubber bands).

You’ll return to MYDDS every month so Dr. Martinez can adjust or tighten the archwires, replace the elastics, and ensure movement is progressing as it should. Traditional braces need to be worn for a period ranging from several months to a couple of years, depending on the nature and severity of your misalignment. After correction, a retainer is worn to maintain results, and a permanent ultrathin wire retainer is placed on the back of the bottom teeth.

The Benefits of a Perfectly Aligned Smile

Malocclusion and crooked teeth can impact oral health, self-esteem, and well-being. In addition to emotional issues, misalignment makes it harder to brush and floss your teeth properly, thereby increasing your risk of bacterial plaque. Crooked teeth can also cause bite issues, grinding/clenching (bruxism), chronic headaches, and painful, debilitating symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint disorder.

As a teen or adult, receiving braces can significantly improve oral health and self-confidence while reducing the risk of tooth decay, misalignment-related pain, and gum disease. At MYDDS, we believe everyone deserves the benefits of a straight smile. We offer highly competitive prices, accept insurance from many major dental insurance carriers, and file claims on your behalf. We also partner with multiple third-party financing companies to make teeth straightening in Miami, FL, even more affordable.
